Since graduating with an honours degree in Fine Art and History of Art, from the national college of art and design in Dublin in the mid-eighties, Darina has worked prolifically and has exhibited extensively. She has also studied Jungian psychology and psychotherapy, which has influenced much of her later work featuring heads and mythic images. Her paintings have become popular among artists from other disciplines, including film director Neil Jordan, actress Julia Roberts and singer Mary Coughlan. She has recently exhibited at the United Nations in New York as part of a highly prestigious show sponsored by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Darina has had a number of one-person shows throughout Ireland, England and the U.S.A in venues such as the Berkeley Gallery in Kilkenny, the New Drogheda Art Centre and the department of Arts Culture and the Environment. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions nationwide. She has forthcoming solo show in Stone Gallery Dublin, in 2008.
Darina’s outstanding talent is widely recognised. Awards include a three-month residency at Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Monaghan, and a scholarship from the New York School of Visual Arts and a merit prize from the Pantheon Gallery, Dublin.
Darina has most recently lectured at Dunlaoghaire College of Art & Design in visual arts communications and personal development.
