DAVID BEGLEY COMMISSION UNVIELED

COMMISSION BY DAVID BEGLEY TO BE UNVEILED IN Winter show 2009

A recently completed painting measuring 122cm x 183cm [4ft x 6ft]) oil on board by Bunclody based artist David Begley will be unveiled at Cherrylane Fine Arts, Co.Wicklow on Sunday 22nd of November at the gallery’s annual Winter Exhibition.

The work titled ʻTo the island' was commissioned by a client of Cherrylane on seeing Begley's work ʻThe Ship Of Fools’ at his solo exhibition last year. This dramatic work presents a dense golden landscape populated in the foreground by tiny figures beginning an exodus.
Overshadowing these, two elongated figures rise out of the land, one supporting the other as they reach to hold open our view to a distant island. Beyond the torsion of the figures lies the calm open sea, a pale blue sky and the impression of the island beyond. A sense of hope pervades this distant vista, and suggests that while we may enjoy or endure the drama of life in our foreground it is often with a longing for what may appear in the distance.

‘To the Island, will be available to the public to view. Mon – Sun, 10am – 6pm from the 22nd November till the 13th December.
